join us in advancing slaqc’s mission!
Current Opportunities:
-
SLAQC is a dynamic community dedicated to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and camaraderie within the climbing world. Our mission is to create welcoming homespaces for queer people to connect, climb, and thrive along the Wasatch Front. As a registered 501(c)(3), sound financial stewardship and governance are what let that homespace become durable and lasting.
Role Description: The Treasurer & Governance Director is one of the most important open roles in SLAQC's next chapter. This is a voting seat on our Board of Directors, pairing hands-on financial management with the compliance work that keeps a growing nonprofit healthy and accountable to our community, and to the funders who back our mission.
Financial & Compliance Duties:
Manages all bookkeeping, banking, and monthly reconciliations
Tracks cash flow, processes expenditures and contractor payments, and manages the organization's debit cards
Drafts, tracks, and adjusts the annual operating budget under board direction
Coordinates annual state and federal tax filings, including Form 990, 1099s and Form 1023 follow-ups
Manages timely renewal of USLI general liability/D&O insurance policies
Ensures ongoing compliance with non-profit corporate codes and bylaws including annual renewal in concert with our registered agent
As a Board Member, you'll also:
Hold a voting seat on SLAQC's Board of Directors, joining four other current board members
Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings currently the 4th Monday of each month, 6:00 PM, held virtually. Consistent attendance is a core expectation of this role.
Uphold the three fiduciary duties expected of nonprofit directors: duty of care (exercising the same care a reasonably prudent person would in a similar role), duty of loyalty (acting in good faith in SLAQC's best interest), and duty of obedience (acting within SLAQC's mission and purpose)
Join in full-board responsibilities like approving the annual budget and major business decisions, and helping recruit future board and advisory board members who reflect the communities SLAQC serves
Serve a 4-year term (renewable), per SLAQC's bylaws
Be covered under SLAQC's Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance policy while serving
Preferred background: Professional or academic background in accounting, corporate finance, or non-profit compliance; MPA student or equivalent strongly preferred; proficiency with accounting tools preferred. Prior board experience is a plus, not a requirement; we'll onboard the right person into nonprofit governance practice.
Time commitment: ~6 hours per month, including the required monthly board meeting.
Compensation: This is an uncompensated, volunteer board position, consistent with standard nonprofit fiduciary practice. Board members are covered under SLAQC's D&O insurance while serving. Board members are eligible for SLAQC pro deals and outdoor industry discounts.
How to Apply: Submit a resume and complete our short application form here. Applications are reviewed by the SLAQC Board. Applications are due by EOD August 15, 2026.

SLAQC is a dynamic community dedicated to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and camaraderie within the climbing world. Our mission is to create welcoming homespaces for queer people to connect, climb, and thrive along the Wasatch Front.
Role Description: The Programs Manager is the operational center of SLAQC's next chapter: a new, paid coordinator role created to carry the day-to-day work that has historically fallen to our all-volunteer board. You'll own indoor meetup coordination and gym partner relationships, directly supervise a future Communications Coordinator, coordinate closely with our Outdoor Coordinators (currently board members), and report to the Board Chair.
Manages all gym partner relationships including community passes, entry discounts, and partnership agreements across Momentum, Salt Lake Bouldering Project, Millcreek Common, and The Front
Recruits, onboards, and schedules volunteer hosts across Salt Lake County partner facilities
Maintains the monthly and seasonal program calendar across indoor, outdoor, and digital channels
Leads quarterly retrospectives to evaluate program impact and coordinator performance, including running the annual community survey and developing a public-facing annual report with the board
Manages distribution of guest passes and other financial-barrier accommodations to maintain accessibility to our events
Collects and routes meetup feedback to address safety or accessibility concerns
Preferred background: Active presence in the local climbing or outdoor recreation community; experience in non-profit coordination, managing others, sports administration, or community organizing; strong relational and organizational skills; genuine commitment to centering QTBIPOC, trans, fat, and low-income community members.
Growth opportunity: This role is designed with room to grow. The right person will have the opportunity to take on broader strategic responsibility, with pay increasing to match, as SLAQC's structure and operations continue to develop. We are highly interested in candidates who can bring a perspective on how to manage our program operations at a next level, such as expanded roles or incentives for volunteers, evolved cadence/schedule of events etc.
Time commitment: 10–15 hours per month
Compensation: $300/month stipend ($3,600/year), with a formal six-month performance review that may result in a rate increase. This role is structured as an independent contractor position (1099), not W-2 employment. You'll be responsible for your own tax withholding, and SLAQC won't be providing benefits or employment protections tied to employee status. This role is eligible for SLAQC pro deals and outdoor industry discounts.
